Male Breast Reduction
Gynecomastia is the technical term for male breasts. Male breast over development has been linked with certain drugs and medical problems, however there is no known cause in the vast majority of cases. Also as men age fat becomes more prominent in the breast area.
If you feel self-conscious about your appearance in this area, breast-reduction surgery can help. This procedure removes fat and breast tissue and in the extreme case excess skin may need to be removed. Male breast reduction makes the chest flatter, firmer, and produces a better contour.
Carefully following Dr. Simmonds' instructions, before and after surgery, minimize risks. As with any surgery, Dr. Simmond’s will review risks and benefits with you.
The incision is made in an inconspicuous location usually on the edge of the areola. Dr. Simmonds will excise most or all of the breast tissue depending on what is needed. Dr. Simmonds also does liposuction of this area as well.
If your prominent breasts bother you then male breast reduction surgery may be right for you.
Rhinoplasty/Nose Surgery
Considering plastic surgery? Plastic surgery is a personal and important decision. Dr. Simmonds wants to assure you that he and his staff is committed to providing personalized and quality care. We welcome the opportunity to give you the information you need to make the best possible decisions.
Rhinoplasty surgery is one of the leading procedures done in the United States; the nose is the most prominent feature of our face and is what sets the harmony and balance of all your other facial features. You may feel your nose is too large, too wide, or you may have a hump. This is a common complaint.
Dr. Simmonds specializes in what is called a “closed approach rhinoplasty”. This procedure leaves no external scars. Even at the closet of angels it is virtually impossible to notice any scars. The incision is made on the inside of the nostril.
Rhinoplasty also referred to as nasal reshaping, can be done at an early age, as long as the growing process is complete. Both men and women, young and old, make changes to the shape of their noses.
Most people believe that by doing a rhinoplasty they will be making themselves look like someone else or will be getting “someone else’s” nose. Those days of going into your plastic surgeon’s office and asking for a particular celebrity’s nose are gone.
As with any surgery Dr. Simmonds will review your medical history with you, past and present medications you may be taking including herbal supplements and risks and benefits of the surgery. Surgery takes about two and half hours depending on what is done. This procedure is done at an outpatient surgery center, under general anesthesia. The nose is packed for twenty-four hours and removed the next day at your one-day post op check.
No blowing your nose for one month and no sticking anything up your nose to clean it, if you need to sneeze, try to sneeze out the mouth. Patients may resume most normal activities within one week. It is our goal to give you the best results possible to enhance and balance your facial features
Face Lift / Rhytidectomy
Face lifts, technically known as rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure to improve visible signs of aging in the face and neck. Some of the most visible signs of aging begin with the face.
You may have some of the following types of conditions: a deep line that runs from the corner of the nose to the corner of the mouth, loose skin around the neck and jaw line, excess fatty tissue in the neck and jowl area, wrinkled, creased skin on the face and neck.
Face lift surgery is designed to correct these aging factors in various ways. Incisions usually begin above the hairline at the temples and follow the natural line in front of the ear then, curve behind the earlobe into the crease behind the ear. The skin is lifted and re-draped, but not pulled. The muscles of the face and cheek tissue are resuspended to give longer lasting results without that “pulled” or “wind tunnel” look.
Every patient’s facial structure, bone and skin type are different. Dr. Simmonds will discuss options on an individual basis. Frequently other rejuvenation procedures can be combined with your facelift, eyelids Surgery, nose reshaping, brow lift, mid-facelift, cheek and chin implants.
Carefully following Dr. Simmonds instructions ,before and after surgery , minimize these risks. All medical conditions will be discussed, past and present. Medications you may be taking, including herbal products, over the counter medications and nutritional supplements will be reviewed.
Dr. Simmonds requires lab work prior to surgery as well as other pre-operative tests depending on ones individual health history. The face lift procedure is done under general anesthesia. The Surgery takes from three to four hours. You will have a turban type wrap around your head, and drains will be in place. The next morning Dr. Simmonds will remove the dressing and drains.
The first few days you should rest with your head elevated, to help minimize swelling and bruising. Face lift patients usually have minimal discomfort however, any pain you feel can be controlled with pain medication prescribed by the doctor.
Knowing that our face is our most visible feature, one that through expression and appearance conveys what and how we feel. Even a person who is energetic and excited about life can appear tired or sad due to aging. Do the signs of aging bother you in your face? Then a facelift may be right for you.
Forehead Lift/Brow Lift
The forehead lift is a procedure to help you look as good as you feel. A low or sagging brow can make you appear sad or tired even when your not. The brow lift will correct this sagging that occurs to give a more youthful and relaxed appearance.
The forehead lift, also called a brow lift, is done to minimize forehead creases and improve drooping eyebrows. This is done by removing excess tissue, altering the muscle, and tightening the forehead skin. This surgery takes about an hour and a half and is done under general anesthesia.
Recovery time is generally five to seven days. Many times brow lifts are done in conjunction with the upper eyelids. As with any surgery, Dr. Simmonds will go over your health history and any medical conditions you may have.
Following Dr. Simmonds instructions, before and after surgery, minimize these risks. Instructions include that you quit smoking, avoid certain medications, and arrange to have help following surgery.
Brow lift/Forehead lift can be done in two ways. Coronal incision is an incision across the top of the scalp beginning above the ears and concealed within the hairline. Endoscopic technique, which is a long, thin tube with a light on the end, and attached to a video camera. This popular procedure is often selected because of the small incisions made within the hairline. Dr. Simmonds can recommend which technique will give you your best results depending on your facial features, skin, muscle tone, and forehead height.
You can expect swelling, numbness and discomfort that can be controlled with pain medications. Keeping your head elevated for the first couple of days to a week will help reduce swelling post-operatively. Your head will be wrapped with a bandage the first night, which can cause additional swelling in the eyes, that is all normal and will go down fairly quickly, once the bandage is removed by Dr. Simmonds at the one day post op visit. It is our goal to give you a refreshed and rejuvenated appearance.
Ear Surgery / Otoplasty
Otoplasty, is also known as ear pinning. This procedure is to reduce the size of large ears and allows for them to be set back closer to the head. This is done by reshaping and repositioning the ear cartilage. The incisions are made behind the ear so nobody will see the scars. This procedure is done on both children and adults, and when performed by a qualified, experienced surgeon, complications are infrequent and usually minor.
Otoplasty is done under a general anesthesia at an outpatient facility and takes about 2 1/2 hours of Surgery. The patient’s head is wrapped in a turban type dressing until Dr. Simmonds removes it the following day. The ears may throb or ache a little for a few days to a week and can be managed with medication. Once the dressing is removed by Dr. Simmonds places a headband or sweatband over the ears to help with compression. This is to be worn for 3 – 4 weeks.
Abdominoplasty / Tummy Tuck
Abdominoplasty commonly known as a tummy tuck, is one of the fastest growing elective surgeries in the last ten years. Even though you may be close to your ideal weight, the extra skin and loosened muscles my still give you that “pot belly” appearance. Diet and exercise may reduce excess fat but the skin elasticity prevents that flat tighter appearance. It can even affect the proper fit of your clothes.
Several patients have this procedure when they have excess or loose sagging skin, or when their stomach muscles have weakened with pregnancy, aging or even excessive weight loss. If this sounds familiar, a tummy tuck may be a good choice for you. Each year thousands of men and women have an abdominoplasty and experience no major complications.
Carefully following Dr. Simmond’s instructions before and after surgery minimize such risks. All medical conditions will be discussed, past and present medications and nutritional supplements will be reviewed. Dr Simmonds requires an EKG (depending on age and health) and lab work prior to surgery. As with any surgery, Dr. Simmond’s will review risks and benefits with you.
The tummy tuck procedure is done under general anesthesia, which takes about 2 1/2 hours. The incision is just above the pubic hairline and is hipbone to hipbone in length and generally takes about a year to fade. The first few days to a week you will walk hunched over because of the muscle tightening. Most of your discomfort can be controlled with pain medications prescribed by Dr. Simmonds.
You will need a special ordered compression garment to be worn for six weeks . Full recovery takes about 6 months, however most patients may resume many of their normal activities within two weeks. Some of the activities you will need to restrict for 6 weeks are exercise, strenuous work, heavy lifting and swimming. Direct exposure to sunlight on the scars should be avoided for 6 months and will cause the scars to darken. Dr Simmonds recommends no driving for two weeks. It is our goal to give you back a flatter, tighter abdominal profile.
Fleur-de-Lis Tummy Tuck
A fleur-de-lis abdominoplasty is a procedure to remove excess skin from the abdominal area and tighten the abdominal muscles by making a T-shaped vertical and horizontal incision in the center of the abdomen, in a fleur-de-lis shape. This procedure is recommended for patients that have more than expected excess skin in the front of the body, usually seen after gastric bypass surgery due to massive weight loss.
